Our Auxiliary is sponsoring the Young American Creative
Patriotic Art Awards Program for students in grades nine
through twelve who are no older than eighteen years of age
and are being educated in Massachusetts. This is a Department
and National VFW Auxiliary Contest. Cash prizes are offered at
the local and department levels and funds to further their
education including a $10,000.00 first place scholarship are
awarded to the winners at the national level. The art must be
on paper or canvas using water color, pencil, pastel, charcoal,
crayon, tempera, acrylic, pen-and-ink, or oil. Entries should not
be framed. Canvas entries should be submitted on stretcher
frames, while other entries should be matted on white. The
art should be no smaller than 8 inches by 10 inches but no
larger than 18 inches by 24 inches, not including the mat. If the
American Flag is used in the entry, it must conform to the
Federal Flag Code as far as color, number of stars and stripes,
and other pertinent rules of the code. The artwork
must have been done during the current school year. A brief
explanation of the patriotism expressed in the artwork and a
completed official entry form bearing information about the
artist and the signatures of his art teacher and parent must be
attached to the back of the entry. Entry forms and more
information about the program may be obtained from high
school art teachers or from Betty Mae Tenney. The artwork
must be submitted to her by Saturday, March 31st. If you know
an artistically talented high school student, do very strongly
encourage him or her to enter this wonderful contest.
